It was 14 years ago that the Lord called Pastor Charles Winfield to service. Pastor Winfield knew that God had placed a call on his life and as a result he worked diligently for the Lord. It was God’s will that he would start a daily Morning Prayer time on his job, which he continues to this day. Continuing to work hard at reaching, connecting and developing people for God’s glory, Pastor Winfield organized a weekly Bible study where people of various denominations came together to testify of God’s goodness in their lives and to discuss God’s Word. God moves the heart of some people to start a church where there is no church and they step out in faith to follow God’s promptings. Pastor Winfield stepped out in faith on February 6, 2005. He had his first church service with sixteen charter members in a union hall on Linwood.
Pastor Winfield knew the name for the church was important; in a vision one morning around 4:00 a.m., the Lord gave him the name of what the ministry would be called, “Fresh Start Ministries.” Pastor Winfield wanted the church to exist for new beginnings. He wanted it to be a place for people of all races, a place for caring and sharing with others, a place for love and warmth, a place for healing and a place for celebrating God’s redeeming grace. Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase. (Job 8:7) The body of Christ at Fresh Start has been increasing and increasing and we’re expectant of what else God has in store for us.
From the very beginning, Pastor Winfield told the Body of Christ at Fresh Start that God was going to bless us with a church home without us having a building fund. With humility of heart, private devotion and public prayer, he seeks God to move in a miraculous fashion. He told us to be faithful in our tithes and offerings and to watch what God would do. God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us. (Ephesians 3:20)
We moved in our new church home on September 23, 2007. Glory to God! May we never forget that we are what we are by the grace of God alone. All that we have, we have received. We give all the glory to God and take none for ourselves.
